Charlton Allen, an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina School of Law, cultivated a deep commitment to justice and advocacy. He initiated his legal career in private practice in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he acquired substantial legal experience. Charlton took on the role of Chairman/Chief Executive Officer/Chief Judicial Officer at the North Carolina Industrial Commission, leading a significant tribunal and state agency. In this capacity, he championed reforms that not only saved lives but also enhanced the welfare of numerous injured workers, streamlined operations, and reduced expenses, resulting in decreased insurance premiums for North Carolina’s small businesses. Following his tenure as Commissioner and public servant, Charlton returned to private practice, establishing the Law Offices of Charlton L. Allen, PLLC. His entrepreneurial endeavors continued with the creation of Liberty Strategies, LLC, a consulting firm. Beyond his legal and entrepreneurial activities, Charlton hosts The Modern Federalist podcast, engaging in discussions on current legal and political matters, advocating for accountability, transparency, and adherence to the Constitution.

More About Charlton Allen

 

Charlton Allen has held numerous leadership roles within the Republican Party, including Chairman of the Teenage Republicans, College Republicans, and Young Republicans. He has served as Party Chairman in New Hanover and Iredell Counties, and as a member of the North Carolina Republican Party Central Committee and Executive Committee. Additionally, he has been on the GOP Executive Committee of multiple Congressional Districts.

Charlton has revitalized the North Carolina Federation of Republican Men as its President and served as its General Counsel. He has also been the Executive Director and Acting General Counsel of the North Carolina Federation of Young Republicans, and a member of the North Carolina Republican Party Platform and Plan of Organization committees.

He founded The Carolina Review, the conservative journal of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Madison Center for Law & Liberty, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to preserving American freedom.

As the Creator, Producer, and Host of The Modern Federalist podcast, Charlton has been a spokesperson for individual and religious liberty for decades. He has advised elected officials, political appointees, and candidates on various issues, including ethical guidance.

Charlton served as a Commissioner on the North Carolina Industrial Commission for approximately seven years, including three years as Chairman/Chief Judicial Officer/Chief Executive Officer. His leadership brought reforms, cost savings for small businesses and insurers, and reduced insurance rates while protecting injured workers’ rights. He spearheaded reforms to eliminate opioid addiction in new cases for injured workers and stood up against those manipulating the system.

A member of the Sons of the American Revolution and an avid genealogy student, Charlton is a cousin of George Washington. He takes great pride in being the grandson of a child mill worker from the American South, a “Rosie the Riveter” who built Liberty Ships, and a war hero who helped liberate concentration camps from Nazi tyranny, all of whom contributed to his legacy of leading the agency adjudicating claims for injured workers.

Charlton has been a licensed attorney for 28 years and is a longtime mediator.

In his personal life, Charlton is an avid photographer, traveler, fan of many sports, student of history, writer, and reader who enjoys spending time with his family and dogs.
